About us The Langalanga Scholarship Fund (LLSF) The Langalanga Scholarship Fund, part of the Langalanga Trust, offers secondary and further education scholarships for talented children and young adults who come from particularly disadvantaged homes and would, without support, be denied the level of education that their talents merit. Our Catchment Area Our catchment area focuses on 16 primary schools and 2 secondary schools, the Woodard Langalanga and Ngeteti Secondary Schools, in the rural Rift Valley and central highlands of Kenya. These schools have few amenities and the majority of the population are subsistence farmers. Educational opportunity and attainment are low, class sizes are large and the prospects of getting a reasonable education are limited. We select scholars from both primary and secondary schools who have done extremely well in national exams. On average, 20 secondary scholarships have been awarded each year until 2014 but, following provision of free secondary education by the Kenyan government from 2018, the charity focuses on those that will benefit most from attending good government secondary boarding schools, universities and colleges. Our Scholarships Since its foundation in 1999 the charity has awarded a total of 312 scholarships for secondary education in Kenya and after four years at good government boarding schools, scholarships for tertiary education have been awarded to those scholars who had reached a high standard in the national Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. By the beginning of 2024, 241 scholars have graduated with good degrees including several Firsts and many Upper Seconds. Engineering, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and Economics have been popular disciplines and two scholars have qualified as doctors. 22 scholars have qualified as certified Public Accountants and 22 as nurses. 55 scholars have taken diplomas in, for example, banking and finance, graphic design, tourism and building and construction. Currently there are a further 2 scholars in higher education studying degree courses in medicine and pharmacy. Our Sponsors Our funding comes from the generous support of sponsors. We promote a strong partnership between sponsors, scholars and trustees to ensure that our scholars feel supported, part of a family and achieve their fullest potential.
