About us Our history Our history The Langalanga Trust (LLT) was created in 2019 as a result of the merger of two charities founded by Harry Vialou-Clark MBE in 1999. Harry was working in Kenya at the time and was so moved by the poverty and lack of educational opportunities for the disadvantaged in the area of Langalanga and Gilgil in the Rift Valley that he was determined to do something about it. The Langalanga Scholarship Fund (LLSF) The Langalanga Scholarship Fund (LLSF) and Kariandusi School Trust (KST) were created in 1999 and 2003 respectively. The first of these charities initially paid for secondary education of children who attended 5 "Harambee" schools. Subsequently, this expanded over the following years to 16 primary schools in the rural areas of the central highlands and Rift Valley within 30 miles of Langalanga. They remain feeder schools to our scholarship scheme today. Kariandusi School Trust (KST) The Kariandusi School Trust was established to support education among Kenyan children through the construction of schools, capture and storage of water locally, repair and maintenance and the provision of teaching materials in the classroom. Nine primary schools were initially built, but in spring 2011 KST started work on its first secondary school in Langalanga named the Woodard Secondary School (WSS), named after the Woodard Corporation which donated over £250,000 to enable its construction. The school is now thriving with over 240 students and growing. The Trust also significantly expanded and improved the facilities of the Ngeteti Secondary School. In 2019, on the retirement of Harry Vialou-Clark, these two charities were merged to form the Langalanga Trust (LLT). The combined objectives remain unchanged and the Trust has continued the work of its predecessor organisations. Through its work supporting education young, disadvantaged Kenyans are fulfilling their ambitions and making a difference to Kenyan society, their communities and their families. It is also with great sadness that we report that Harry Vialou-Clark passed away in March 2023. Better known as Colonel VC he laid the foundations, found sponsors, built the schools, created scholarships and a charity that was universally admired. He cared deeply for those in need in a country that he loved and his work touched literally hundreds of young, academically able Kenyans living in poverty. His legacy is a community of scholars who have benefited from his vision and energy, have achieved their academic ambitions, can make their way independently in this world, support their families and influence positively the communities from which they came. Help us to continue Harry's work and change a life. Please consider a donation to support a child or school.
